Emergency HVAC Repair: Should You Call or Wait?

It’s understandable to be concerned if there is something wrong with your HVAC system. However, it helps if you can tell exactly what warrants emergency repair service. This way, you can avoid the stress and unnecessary costs.

In this post, Superior Air discusses the HVAC issues that are generally considered emergencies and those that are not.

When to Call for Emergency HVAC Repair

  • Your safety is a concern.

If not resolved as soon as possible, certain HVAC problems can pose a serious risk to your safety. For example, if you notice sparks or smoke coming from your furnace, air conditioner or heat pump, this is an emergency that needs to be handled by a professional right away. Call for an emergency HVAC repair if your unit’s refrigerant is leaking, there is a strong smell of gas or there is a loud noise when your HVAC unit is on.

  • There is water damage.

Water damage can cause major property losses, and excess moisture can attract pests or promote mold growth in a short span of time. Water-related problems, such as a clogged condensate drain or frozen coils, should be addressed by emergency AC repair service. These issues will damage your HVAC system and might lead to costly repairs or early replacement. Calling your HVAC service provider as soon as you notice a problem is the best way to prevent or mitigate water damage.

  • Your AC is not working at all.

Check your circuit breaker and thermostat if your air conditioner isn’t working. If there’s power and your thermostat settings are correct, the AC should work. If it’s not turning on or cooling your home, call for AC repair immediately.

HVAC Services That Can Wait

These are not considered emergencies, so you can take some time to plan when to call for a contractor:

  • Cleaning or replacement of filters
  • HVAC maintenance
  • HVAC upgrades or replacements
