Optimizing Your HVAC Settings for a Good Night’s Sleep

Adequate sleep is essential to your health and well-being, as it helps brain function, reduces your risk of diseases and leaves you refreshed and alert during the day. To ensure quality sleep at night, your environment should be conducive to rest. The temperature and humidity in your bedroom can affect your comfort during sleep, so make sure to use the proper settings for your HVAC system. 

In this post, Superior Air shares tips on optimizing your HVAC settings so that you always get a good night’s sleep.

Adjusting the humidity. The humidity outside can be unbearable and uncomfortable, but this factor shouldn’t affect you when you’re in your bedroom getting ready to sleep. According to experts, mold and other allergens thrive when the environment is too humid and stuffy. These things can cause a host of respiratory concerns, which could interrupt your sleep and even trigger skin problems. What you can do is install a humidifier to keep your indoor humidity at a comfortable level. Make sure it’s set between 50% and 60%.

Controlling the temperature. The indoor temperature is a considerable contributor to the overall comfort of your space. According to the National Sleep Foundation, setting your thermostat between 60 and 67 degrees F at night will help you unwind and fall asleep more easily. You can also create zones in your home and designate a cooler temperature in your bedroom.

Modifying light. Did you know that lights from HVAC units and other equipment can make it difficult for some people to sleep? Fortunately, you can easily cover or turn off these light indicators before you go to bed to prevent them from disturbing your sleep.
