Will Keeping Your Heating on Low Help Save Energy?

Everyone wants energy-efficient heating at home. To do so, some people have kept their heating systems running on a low setting to reduce energy consumption. However, some believe that turning the unit on only when needed is the best way to save energy.

To help you make the right decision for your home, Superior Air shares some energy-saving tips in this post.

When to Keep Your Heating on Low Setting

According to experts, an HVAC system left on a low heat setting will consume more electricity if the home is poorly insulated. For example, an old home with window gaps, wall cracks, and torn insulation will cause air to escape, forcing the HVAC to work harder to heat its interior.

Furthermore, a well-insulated home with an incorrectly sized boiler won’t save energy even if you keep it on low all day. For instance, small boilers used in large rooms will need more time to heat the entire room and will switch on frequently.

The Role of Insulation in Saving Energy

Well-insulated properties have low to zero energy loss, letting heating systems work less and consume less energy. They repel outside temperatures and keep indoor air at stable temperatures. As a result, they lessen the strain on the HVAC system while providing a comfortable indoor environment.

Using Heaters to Deal With Humidity

Homes in humid and damp environments need their heating systems to be kept on low every day. This is because humidity can cause mold growth and freeze your water pipes. A heater that’s consistently on a low setting keeps the air dry at all times and protects your home’s components and accessories from excessive dampness.

If you have poor insulation and want to save energy, consider using a timer or programmable thermostat to automatically switch the heater on and off based on your schedule.
