How to Know if an HVAC Contractor’s Reviews Are Real

Online reviews help you learn more about an HVAC company you are considering for a job. However, you have to be wary of the reviews you find on the internet because some of them can be fake. Unfortunately, some contractors hire people to write glowing reviews about their services, leaving you with unreliable information.

In this post, Superior Air shares tips on distinguishing fake reviews from genuine ones.

How to Spot Fake Reviews

Frequency of Reviews. Fabricated reviews are usually posted in bulk, so you’ll notice that they are created just a few hours or days apart. Some hired reviewers can inflate a contractor’s reputation with multiple positive writeups in an hour.

Praise for a Competitor. Negative reviews can be helpful too. However, if a negative review mentions and praises a different HVAC company, consider it suspicious. The competitor praised in the review probably wrote or commissioned it.

Inadequate Details. A good review will explain the HVAC issue and the solution (or service) provided by the contractor. In some cases, they also name technicians that you can find on the HVAC company’s roster. Genuine reviews are often longer; they explain the HVAC issues and solutions they received in detail.

Use of Jargon. Jargon isn’t necessary to write reviews. Be wary of reviews that mention too much jargon or use emotional language. Also, watch out for reviews that sound similar and only praise the contractor.

What to Look for When Reading Reviews

Look for reviews that talk about an issue similar to yours. You should also check any feedback on the contractor’s communication skills, attitude, and services. If there are too many reviews for you to read, focus on customer feedback written within the past year. Then, pick three to five reviews with detailed information.
