How to Stay Warm & Cozy This Winter Season

With winter just around the corner, it’s important to ensure your home stays comfortable for your family and guests. Before you start decorating and preparing your home for the festive season, check out these tips from our air conditioning repair and maintenance experts at Superior Air:

Don’t decorate near the thermostat. This may seem a bit odd, but hanging holiday lights, Christmas wreaths and garlands over your thermostat isn’t recommended. This is because the heat coming from the lights as well as the garland covering your thermostat can affect the way it gauges the temperature of your room. This can lead to inaccurate temperature readings, and the comfort of your interior will become affected.

Change your HVAC filters. Your heating and air conditioning installation should keep your indoors warm and cozy, but if they’re unable to effectively filter out the contaminants coming in from the outside, this can affect your home’s indoor comfort. It can also lead to frequent allergic reactions and respiratory problems. And if you have a dirty filter, this will restrict the airflow into and out of your home, making your entire HVAC system work harder than necessary to reach the desired temperatures in your home. The best way to avoid this is to check and clean your air filters before the winter season starts.

Check your carbon monoxide detectors. During the winter holiday season, the chances of inhaling carbon monoxide are higher. Gas furnaces, for example, churn out carbon monoxide as a byproduct. While this shouldn’t be a problem if your home’s vents are kept clean, it’s still important to check to make sure your carbon monoxide detectors are fully functional.
